253. Hermann Hinrich LÜHRS was born on 16 Feb 1845 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. He inherited house #19 -- Zum Alte Krüg -- about 1870. He died on 21 Apr 1912 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER.

Hermann Hinrich LÜHRS and Marie MEYER were married on 5 May 1870. Marie MEYER was born on 11 Feb 1848 in Nindorf bei Verden, Hannover, GER. She died on 18 Oct 1922 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. Hermann Hinrich LÜHRS and Marie MEYER had the following children:

305. i.   Heinrich LÜHRS. was born on 10 Oct 1870 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. He died on 1 Jul 1937 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. He was run over by a car in front of Zum Alte Krüg. He inherited house #19.
306. ii.   Dorothea LÜHRS. was born on 23 Jun 1872 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. She died on 20 Aug 1955 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER.
307. iii.   Johann Hinrich LÜHRS. was born on 21 Sep 1873 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. He died on 29 Jul 1964 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. "Opa Luhrs" was also known as "Jan Smed", John the Blacksmith in the Plattedeutsch dialect of northern Germany. He served in the German army in World War I. Between the wars, he served as the village blacksmith and storekeeper, and was somewhat of a community leader. In his later years he was rather distraught over the death of two sons in World War II -- Siegfried and Wilhelm -- and the death of a son-in-law, and serious injuries to his youngest son Hermann. His story is told in the 1983 book "Wenn Nix Dortwüschen Kummt" by Hinrich Gerken (not a relative).
308. iv.   Georg LÜHRS. was born on 15 Nov 1874 in Walle bei Verden, Hannover, GER. He died on 30 Mar 1914 in Verden an der Aller, Hannover, GER. He was accused by a Verden woman of rape, which he denied. He commited suicide while in prison awaiting trial. He never married.
